Teco Electric and Machinery Co Ltd (東元電機), a leading Taiwan-based electric machinery supplier, has won mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contracts in hyperscale data center engineering projects in Malaysia worth about NT$1.17 billion (US$39.78 million).
Teco on Friday said that two data center projects, one in Selangor and the other in Johor Bahru, marked the company’s inroads into the hyperscale data center business and have a combined capacity of 178 megawatts (MW).
The two contracts showed “not only Teco’s advanced technical capabilities in hyperscale data center MEP engineering, but also showcases its Intelligence Energy Business Group’s competence in project integration and execution on the international stage,” Teco chairman Morris Li (利明献) said.

As Malaysia is rapidly rising to become a major data center hub in Southeast Asia, the contracts are expected to support the company in broadening its footprint in the data center infrastructure market, Teco said.
The firm has been well-positioned in the MEP engineering sector and is recognized as an industry expert in fiber connectivity for hyperscale data centers, it added.
The project in Selangor’s Elmina Business Park includes server room installations and the deployment of hyperscale fiber-optic communications infrastructure, while the project in Johor Bahru’s Sedenak Tech Park involves providing fiber-optic solutions for hyperscale data centers, it said.
As major global tech giants are accelerating the deployment of hyperscale data centers in Southeast Asia, the company would continue to seek opportunities to win more contracts and further extend its reach in the data center business, Teco said.
The company has more than 10 years of experience in data center MEP engineering development and has delivered integrated solutions totaling more than 240MW in capacity, it added.
The company’s Intelligence Energy Business Group is executing a landmark data center MEP project in Singapore, which includes the installation of the world’s first 13,864-core hyperscale fiber-optic cable, Teco said.
Teco said its total installed capacity for data center projects across Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries has surpassed 700MV.
In addition to engineering solutions, the company also provides core MEP products essential for data center construction, such as modular solutions, high-efficiency motors, busways, generators, transformers and switchboards.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) yesterday voiced dissatisfaction with the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans- Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), whose latest meeting, concluded earlier the same day, appeared not to address the country’s application. In a statement, MOFA said the CPTPP commission had "once again failed to fairly process Taiwan’s application," attributing the inaction to the bloc’s "succumbing to political pressure," without elaborating. Taiwan submitted its CPTPP application under the name "Separate Customs Territory of Taiwan, Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu" on Sept. 22, 2021 -- less than a week after China

A home-style restaurant opened by a Taiwanese woman in Quezon City in Metro Manila has been featured in the first-ever Michelin Guide honoring exceptional restaurants in the Philippines. The restaurant, Fong Wei Wu (豐味屋), was one of 74 eateries to receive a “Michelin Selected” honor in the guide, while one restaurant received two Michelin stars, eight received one star and 25 were awarded a “Bib Gourmand.” The guide, which was limited to restaurants in Metro Manila and Cebu, was published on Oct. 30. In an interview, Feng Wei Wu’s owner and chef, Linda, said that as a restaurateur in her 60s, receiving an
MORE RETALIATION: China would adopt a long-term pressure strategy to prevent other countries or future prime ministers following in Sanae Takaichi’s steps, an academic said Taiwan should maintain communications with Japan, as Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi is to lead a revision of security documents, Taiwanese academics said yesterday. Tensions have risen between Japan and China over remarks by Takaichi earlier this month that the use of force against Taiwan would constitute a “survival-threatening situation” for Japan. Prospect Foundation president Lai I-chung (賴怡忠) yesterday said Takaichi’s stance regarding Taiwan is the same as past Japanese prime ministers, but her position is clearer than that of her predecessors Fumio Kishida and Shigeru Ishiba. Although Japan views a “Taiwan contingency” as a “survival-threatening situation,” which would allow its military to
