Teco Electric and Machinery Co Ltd (東元電機), a leading Taiwan-based electric machinery supplier, has won mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contracts in hyperscale data center engineering projects in Malaysia worth about NT$1.17 billion (US$39.78 million).
Teco on Friday said that two data center projects, one in Selangor and the other in Johor Bahru, marked the company’s inroads into the hyperscale data center business and have a combined capacity of 178 megawatts (MW).
The two contracts showed “not only Teco’s advanced technical capabilities in hyperscale data center MEP engineering, but also showcases its Intelligence Energy Business Group’s competence in project integration and execution on the international stage,” Teco chairman Morris Li (利明献) said.

As Malaysia is rapidly rising to become a major data center hub in Southeast Asia, the contracts are expected to support the company in broadening its footprint in the data center infrastructure market, Teco said.
The firm has been well-positioned in the MEP engineering sector and is recognized as an industry expert in fiber connectivity for hyperscale data centers, it added.
The project in Selangor’s Elmina Business Park includes server room installations and the deployment of hyperscale fiber-optic communications infrastructure, while the project in Johor Bahru’s Sedenak Tech Park involves providing fiber-optic solutions for hyperscale data centers, it said.
As major global tech giants are accelerating the deployment of hyperscale data centers in Southeast Asia, the company would continue to seek opportunities to win more contracts and further extend its reach in the data center business, Teco said.
The company has more than 10 years of experience in data center MEP engineering development and has delivered integrated solutions totaling more than 240MW in capacity, it added.
The company’s Intelligence Energy Business Group is executing a landmark data center MEP project in Singapore, which includes the installation of the world’s first 13,864-core hyperscale fiber-optic cable, Teco said.
Teco said its total installed capacity for data center projects across Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries has surpassed 700MV.
In addition to engineering solutions, the company also provides core MEP products essential for data center construction, such as modular solutions, high-efficiency motors, busways, generators, transformers and switchboards.
The inspection equipment and data transmission system for new robotic dogs that Taipei is planning to use for sidewalk patrols were developed by a Taiwanese company, the city’s New Construction Office said today, dismissing concerns that the China-made robots could pose a security risk. The city is bringing in smart robotic dogs to help with sidewalk inspections, Taipei Deputy Mayor Lee Ssu-chuan (李四川) said on Facebook. Equipped with a panoramic surveillance system, the robots would be able to automatically flag problems and easily navigate narrow sidewalks, making inspections faster and more accurate, Lee said. By collecting more accurate data, they would help Taipei
TAKING STOCK: The USMC is rebuilding a once-abandoned airfield in Palau to support large-scale ground operations as China’s missile range grows, Naval News reported The US Marine Corps (USMC) is considering new sites for stockpiling equipment in the West Pacific to harden military supply chains and enhance mobility across the Indo-Pacific region, US-based Naval News reported on Saturday. The proposed sites in Palau — one of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies — and Australia would enable a “rapid standup of stored equipment within a year” of the program’s approval, the report said, citing documents published by the USMC last month. In Palau, the service is rebuilding a formerly abandoned World War II-era airfield and establishing ancillary structures to support large-scale ground operations “as China’s missile range and magazine
STATS: Taiwan’s average life expectancy of 80.77 years was lower than that of Japan, Singapore and South Korea, but higher than in China, Malaysia and Indonesia Taiwan’s average life expectancy last year increased to 80.77 years, but was still not back to its pre-COVID-19 pandemic peak of 81.32 years in 2020, the Ministry of the Interior said yesterday. The average life expectancy last year increased the 0.54 years from 2023, the ministry said in a statement. For men and women, the average life expectancy last year was 77.42 years and 84.30 years respectively, up 0.48 years and 0.56 years from the previous year. Taiwan’s average life expectancy peaked at 81.32 years in 2020, as the nation was relatively unaffected by the pandemic that year. The metric
