The Mainland Affairs Council (MAC) today condemned the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) after the Czech officials confirmed that Chinese agents had surveilled Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) during her visit to Prague in March last year.
Czech Military Intelligence director Petr Bartovsky yesterday said that Chinese operatives had attempted to create the conditions to carry out a demonstrative incident involving Hsiao, going as far as to plan a collision with her car.
Hsiao was vice president-elect at the time.

The MAC said that it has requested an explanation and demanded a public apology from Beijing.
The CCP has repeatedly ignored the desires of the Taiwanese and went so far as to plan a violent attack on a democratically elected vice president prior to her taking office, the MAC said.
The plot exposes the CCP’s violent nature and proves that there is no goodwill in its attempts to communicate with Taiwan’s democratically elected government, it said.
Chinese authorities should explain and apologize to Taiwan and the international community for violating international norms and disregarding safety, the MAC said, adding that Beijing should also promise to no longer harass or intimidate Taiwan’s citizens and officials.
The international community should condemn the CCP’s attempts to expand authoritarianism in other countries and demand that it abide by existing international norms, the MAC added.
Eight Chinese naval vessels and 24 military aircraft were detected crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait between 6am yesterday and 6am today, the Ministry of National Defense said this morning. The aircraft entered Taiwan’s northern, central, southwestern and eastern air defense identification zones, the ministry said. The armed forces responded with mission aircraft, naval vessels and shore-based missile systems to closely monitor the situation, it added. Eight naval vessels, one official ship and 36 aircraft sorties were spotted in total, the ministry said.
