The eighth Taiwan-Finland Trade Talk took place in Helsinki yesterday, with both sides saying there is potential for collaboration in the telecommunications sector.
Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs Cynthia Kiang (江文若) and Finnish Under-Secretary of State for Economic Affairs and Employment discussed quantum satellites, renewable energy, healthcare and circular economy issues, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said in a statement.
Kiang shared information on Taiwan’s role in international supply chains, the statement said.

She emphasized that the two countries share the values of freedom and democracy, it said.
Finland’s role in the global telecom industry and its ability to develop software complement Taiwan’s manufacturing capabilities and could allow both sides to collaborate on business opportunities, it said.
Peltonen confirmed the potential for cooperation in the sector and hailed Taiwan as an important partner in the industry, given the need to establish reliable supply chains in a changing international situation, the statement said.
Kiang and Peltonen also attended the 12th Taiwan-Finland Joint Business Council Meeting today, at which Kiang said that the two sides can create a win-win situation by expanding international cooperation.
Finland and Taiwan both pursue innovation and entrepreneurship, Kiang said, adding that the government would continue to invest in Taiwan’s industrial base.
Kiang visited IQM, a Finnish quantum computer start-up, to learn about the company’s latest developments, and Nokia, to see the company’s latest 5G/6G telecommunications infrastructure.
Finland is Taiwan’s third-largest trading partner in northern Europe, with a bilateral trade volume last year of US$514 million.
As of March, Finland this year had invested US$5.92 million in Taiwan, while Taiwanese entrepreneurs had invested about US$15.86 million in Finland in the same period.
