Temperatures across Taiwan are expected to rise this afternoon as a front that had lingered over the country moves south into the Bashi Channel, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said.
The agency had issued a heavy rain advisory for outlying Penghu County early today, but later lifted the alert.
Areas south of Hsinchu, as well as mountainous regions in Hualien and Taitung counties, have a high chance of localized showers, CWA forecaster Lin Ting-yi (林定宜) told reporters.

However, the rain is expected to subside later in the day, Lin said.
Temperatures are expected to rise as the front moves away, he added.
Temperatures of 27°C to 29°C are expected in northern and eastern Taiwan, with central and southern regions reaching 31°C to 32°C degrees, he said.
A tropical disturbance might develop in waters east of the Philippines or the South China Sea next week, but the strength and exact location remain uncertain, so further monitoring is needed before an accurate report can be issued, Lin said.
Eight Chinese naval vessels and 24 military aircraft were detected crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait between 6am yesterday and 6am today, the Ministry of National Defense said this morning.
