A cram school teacher was sentenced today to 12 years in prison for the sexual abuse of minors and related offenses, including deepfake porn actions.
In the case, which was heard in the Taichung District Court, the man was accused of molesting one underage student, secretly filming underage students and creating sexually explicit videos of students with the use of digital technology.
The man, surnamed Chen (陳), had been teaching at various cram schools in Taipei since 2015 and began working as a substitute teacher at a Taipei elementary school in 2019, according to the indictment.

His first known sexual abuse offense, uncovered by investigators, occurred in 2015 when he molested a female student at a cram school and filmed the act, prosecutors said.
Between 2021 and 2023, he invited students on several excursions, during which he secretly filmed underage girls while they were showering, the indictment said.
With the use of digital technology, he manipulated those videos to make them look as if the girls were engaged in sex acts, then he uploaded them to illegal sites, including Chuangyi Sifang (創意私房), a platform that facilitated the sharing of child pornography, according to the indictment.
Chen was caught last year during an investigation by Taichung District Prosecutors into Chuangyi Sifang. During a raid on his residence and office, investigators seized film evidence and several mini cameras, the indictment said.
Chen was indicted in November last year on charges of molestation of minors under the age of 14, illegal distribution of sex videos and illegal recording of intimate images.
The number of deepfake porn victims totaled 30, including 25 underage students, according to the indictment.
The guilty verdict and the 12-year prison sentence imposed on Chen by the Taichung District Court today can be appealed.

Taiwan is to have nine extended holidays next year, led by a nine-day Lunar New Year break, the Cabinet announced yesterday. The nine-day Lunar New Year holiday next year matches the length of this year’s holiday, which featured six extended holidays. The increase in extended holidays is due to the Act on the Implementation of Commemorative and Festival Holidays (紀念日及節日實施條例), which was passed early last month with support from the opposition Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) and Taiwan People’s Party. Under the new act, the day before Lunar New Year’s Eve is also a national holiday, and Labor Day would no longer be limited
COMMITMENTS: The company had a relatively low renewable ratio at 56 percent and did not have any goal to achieve 100 percent renewable energy, the report said Pegatron Corp ranked the lowest among five major final assembly suppliers in progressing toward Apple Inc’s commitment to be 100 percent carbon neutral by 2030, a Greenpeace East Asia report said yesterday. While Apple has set the goal of using 100 percent renewable energy across its entire business, supply chain and product lifecycle by 2030, carbon emissions from electronics manufacturing are rising globally due to increased energy consumption, it said. Given that carbon emissions from its supply chain accounted for more than half of its total emissions last year, Greenpeace East Asia evaluated the green transition performance of Apple’s five largest final
The first tropical storm of the year in the western North Pacific, Wutip (蝴蝶), has formed over the South China Sea and is expected to move toward Hainan Island off southern China, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said today.
