Taiwanese blogger Lady Nai Nai (貴婦奈奈), who was repatriated to Taiwan after being in Canada for six years avoiding fraud charges, was released on bail last night with travel and residence restrictions and placed under electronic monitoring.
The influencer, whose real name is Su Chen Tuan (蘇陳端), returned to Taiwan yesterday, and after being questioned by prosecutors later in the day was released on NT$2 million (US$64,105.64) bail.
Despite strongly suspecting that Su Chen committed fraud and believing that she was a flight risk, prosecutors decided last night that detaining her was unnecessary as she had voluntarily turned herself in to Taiwanese authorities.

Su Chen's case dates back to 2018 when she, her then-boyfriend Huang Po-chien (黃博健), and his father Huang Li-hsiung (黃立雄) were under investigation for fraud after the beauty clinic they ran closed down suddenly, leaving all their debts behind.
Prosecutors believe that Su Chen took advantage of her fame to attract up to NT$100 million in investment from the public for the clinic before it shut down.
The three then fled to Canada via the US in November 2018, and they were listed as wanted for suspected fraud in January 2019.
Su Chen recently wrote a letter to the media and a statement to prosecutors, saying that she was willing to return to Taiwan and cooperate with the investigation.
She denied taking part in the clinic or committing any illegal acts and wanted to assist prosecutors with the case to shed light on the matter.
Huang Li-hsiung (黃立雄) returned to Taiwan last year and was put under the same restrictions as was Su Chen yesterday pending the results of the investigation into the case.
Su Chen rose to fame in the early 2000s, when she started blogging about her relationship with Huang Po-chien and writing her personal reflections on everyday life under the name Lady Nai Nai.
Before her blog closed down in 2013, it had accumulated more than 46 million views. In 2017, her Facebook page had more than 300,000 followers.
Taiwan would benefit from more integrated military strategies and deployments if the US and its allies treat the East China Sea, the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea as a “single theater of operations,” a Taiwanese military expert said yesterday. Shen Ming-shih (沈明室), a researcher at the Institute for National Defense and Security Research, said he made the assessment after two Japanese military experts warned of emerging threats from China based on a drill conducted this month by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) Eastern Theater Command. Japan Institute for National Fundamentals researcher Maki Nakagawa said the drill differed from the

Taiwan is supposed to be a peaceful homeland where people are united, but President William Lai (賴清德) has been polarizing and tearing apart society since his inauguration, Chu said. Lai must show his commitment to his job, otherwise a referendum could be initiated to recall him, he said. Democracy means the rule of the people, not the rule of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), but Lai has failed to fulfill his
A rally held by opposition parties yesterday demonstrates that Taiwan is a democratic country, President William Lai (賴清德) said yesterday, adding that if opposition parties really want to fight dictatorship, they should fight it on Tiananmen Square in Beijing. The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) held a protest with the theme “against green communists and dictatorship,” and was joined by the Taiwan People’s Party. Lai said the opposition parties are against what they called the “green communists,” but do not fight against the “Chinese communists,” adding that if they really want to fight dictatorship, they should go to the right place and face
