Average daytime high temperatures are forecast to hit 20°C or higher across Taiwan today, before seasonal northeasterly winds and a cold air mass bring cooler and wet weather from tomorrow to next Monday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
Despite a cooler start of 13-17°C early today, daytime highs are expected to climb to 23-25°C in western Taiwan, and 21-22°C in the east, CNA forecaster Lin Ting-yi (林定宜) told CNA yesterday afternoon.
Low cloud and fog are expected to cause poor visibility from Taoyuan in the north and Tainan in southwestern Taiwan between late today and early tomorrow, Lin said.

Nighttime temperatures today are expected to fall back into the teens, with snow forecast on mountains of 3,000 meters or higher in central and northern Taiwan, Lin said.
Sporadic snowfall could occur between late tonight and early tomorrow if the air blowing from the east and southeast of Taiwan carries enough moisture, Lin added.
A weather front is expected to move across Taiwan from the northwest tomorrow, along with the strengthening seasonal northeasterly winds and a cold air mass, which would bring down temperatures to an overnight low of 11-13°C in northeastern and western Taiwan, and 14-15°C in Hualien and Taitung from late Sunday to early Monday, the CNA forecaster said.
In addition to the falling temperature, the CWA also warned of heavy rainfall in Keelung, along the northern coast of Taiwan, as well as mountainous areas in Greater Taipei and Yilan from tomorrow to Sunday.
The rain is expected to ease on Tuesday, while warm temperatures are also forecast for that day, the CNA forecaster said.
Taiwan is to have nine extended holidays next year, led by a nine-day Lunar New Year break, the Cabinet announced yesterday. The nine-day Lunar New Year holiday next year matches the length of this year’s holiday, which featured six extended holidays. The increase in extended holidays is due to the Act on the Implementation of Commemorative and Festival Holidays (紀念日及節日實施條例), which was passed early last month with support from the opposition Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) and Taiwan People’s Party. Under the new act, the day before Lunar New Year’s Eve is also a national holiday, and Labor Day would no longer be limited

While Apple has set the goal of using 100 percent renewable energy across its entire business, supply chain and product lifecycle by 2030, carbon emissions from electronics manufacturing are rising globally due to increased energy consumption, it said. Given that carbon emissions from its supply chain accounted for more than half of its total emissions last year, Greenpeace East Asia evaluated the green transition performance of Apple’s five largest final
