In August last year, Mao was sentenced to 28 years in prison after the Taipei District Court convicted him on 11 counts of sexual assault, 207 counts of indecent assault and six counts of filming obscene images.
Prosecutors and Mao appealed the decision to the High Court, which issued its ruling today.
During the second trial, Mao admitted to “touching” the children, but claimed he did not sexually assault them.
The court found Mao guilty of the original charges, plus an additional count of taking obscene images, adding another eight months to his sentence.
In October last year, prosecutors said they found additional evidence that Mao had sexually assaulted, molested or secretly photographed 39 more minors, in addition to taking hundreds of photographs of children using the bathrooms in public places like shopping malls and restaurants.
The court also approved a request to detain Mao for another two months beginning from Dec. 13 last year, citing flight risk and chance for recidivism.
