The interior of one of Taiwan Railway Corp’s (TRC) two new tourist trains was unveiled today, ahead of its official start of operations on Dec. 7.
Lion Travel, which has the rights to operate new tourism express trains, and the TRC held a press event at Hsinchu Railway Station today to unveil the new Haifeng (海風號) train.
The Haifeng and Shanlan (山嵐號) were designed to feature Taiwan’s natural landscapes, the organizers said.

The Haifeng’s revamped EMU500 series passenger train features a color palette reminiscent of the blues and greens of the ocean, with an interior that allows passengers to enjoy the scenery in beautiful surroundings, they said.
The Haifeng is to begin operations on Dec. 7, traveling along the shoreline from Hsinchu to Taichung and back, TRC said.
It is to make stops at Sinpu (新埔) and Daijia (大甲) stations on the way to Taichung, and at Sinpu and Houlong (後龍) stations on the way back to Hsinchu, it said.

Descriptions of the sights are to be broadcast during the journey interspersed with soft music, the railway company said.
Meals are to be packed in a gift box featuring local delicacies, as well as French pastries and Michelin-starred ice cream, it added.

Johanne Liou (劉喬安), a Taiwanese woman who shot to unwanted fame during the Sunflower movement protests in 2014, returned to Taiwan last night after being deported from the US. She is to stand trial in Taiwan for charges involving embezzlement, fraud and drug crimes.
