The construction of a six-station Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line from Taipei’s Donghu (東湖) area to New Taipei City’s Sijhih District (汐止) is expected to begin next year, the New Taipei City Department of Transit Systems today said.
The construction project contracts were today awarded to Gamuda Berhad (馬來西亞商金務大工程公司), Dong Pi Co.(東丕營造公司) and MiTAC Information Technology Corp. (神通資訊科技公司). The total length of the route is expected to be 5.56km with six overground stations and would be completed in 2032, department head Lee Cheng-an (李政安) said.

The stations are to be located in Taipei City’s Neihu District (內湖), which Donghu is part of, and New Taipei City’s Sijhih District, with the line's terminal station located near the Sijhih District Office, he added.
The Donghu-Sijhih MRT line would solve Sijhih’s long-standing traffic problem and connect Keelung, New Taipei City and Taipei in a common living circle, Lee said.
Commuters would be able to transfer to the Taipei MRT at the line's SB10 station which would connect to the Wenhu Line's Donghu Station with a bridge and moving walkways, the department's Construction Division Deputy Director-General Chen Chih-ming (鄭智銘) said, adding that the distance between the two stations would be about 200m.
The Donghu-Sijhih MRT line, like the Keelung and Minsheng-Sijhih MRT lines, would utilize Light Rail Rapid Transit (LRRT), a medium-capacity transit system (MCT), according to the Railway Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, he said.
Every train should carry at least 530 people, under the plan approved by the Executive Yuan, he added.
Six new MRT lines are also underway, including the Sanying line.
