Enhancing Germany’s collaborations with Taiwan in the aerospace, healthcare and machinery industries would be a key issue, said Eva Langerbeck, the chief representative of the German Trade Office Taipei.
Langerbeck said in an interview yesterday that in addition to semiconductors, German companies are keen to explore collaboration opportunities with Taiwan in aerospace technologies, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and automated machinery.
Those are the areas she plans to place at the “forefront” of her work in Taiwan, said Langerbeck, who took over the role of office director in June. She was previously posted in Malaysia.

A delegation comprising nine German companies would visit Taiwan next month to explore potential business collaborations, which would be followed by more groups next year, said Langerbeck, who is also executive director of the office.
As everyone is “heavily focused on semiconductors,” the office would continue working to serve “the wave of the semiconductor investment” among Taiwanese and German chip suppliers, she said.
Langerbeck added that she is “confident” bilateral trade ties between Taiwan and Germany would “go further now with the TSMC investment,” referring to plans by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC), the world’s largest contract chipmaker, to build a 10 billion euro (US$11.04 billion) fab in Dresden, Germany.
Construction of the fab began late last month, with production expected to commence in 2027.
Supported by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, the office represents 46 corporate members with operations in Taiwan.

Taiwanese authorities suspect Chinese sabotage in the incidents near Taiwan’s waters, while EU leaders have said Russia is the likely culprit behind similar breaches in the Baltic. “Taiwan and our European
