A fallen steel beam blocked traffic on a major road in New Taipei City’s Sanchong District (三重) this morning, causing serious delays during the morning commute.
At 5:50am, a large steel beam tipped off of a truck while traveling on the Provincial Highway No. 1 overpass above Chongan Street, Sanchong police said.
The truck was heading toward the nearby Zhongxiao Bridge that connects to Taipei when the beam fell off for unknown reasons, they said.

It damaged the barrier and road surface, dropping debris to Chongan Street below.
Two parked passenger vehicles were hit by falling debris, but no one was injured, police said.
All traffic on the overpass heading toward Zhongxiao Bridge was closed to traffic, causing serious delays during the morning rush hour.
Police were dispatched to direct traffic to the nearby Taipei and Zhongxing bridges.
A breathalyzer test on the driver, surnamed Hung (洪), came back negative, police said.
Posting on Facebook at 8:11am, New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-yi (侯友宜) said that Chongan Street had been cleared.
By 10:24am, the overpass heading toward Zhongxiao Bridge had reopened to single-lane traffic, Hou said.

A pro-Russia hacker group has launched a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on the Taiwanese government in retaliation for President William Lai’s (賴清德) comments suggesting that China should have a territorial dispute with Russia, an information security company said today. The hacker group, NoName057, recently launched an HTTPs flood attack called “DDoSia” targeting Taiwanese government and financial units, Radware told the Liberty Times (sister paper of the Taipei Times). Local tax bureaus in New Taipei City, Keelung, Hsinchu and Taoyuan were mentioned by the hackers. Only the Hsinchu Local Tax Bureau site appeared to be down earlier in the day, but was back
