An advisory panel including some of the nation’s top athletes is to be formed next month as the government prepares to create a ministry for sports development, the Executive Yuan announced today.
The Cabinet met this morning to discuss achievements from the Paris Olympics and create a preparatory team tasked with creating a sports ministry, upgraded from the current Sports Administration under the Ministry of Education.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Sports Administration Deputy Director Fang Jui-wen (房瑞文) said representatives from across the sporting world have been invited to participate.

Athletes to join the advisory panel include weightlifter Kuo Hsing-chun (郭婞淳) and shuttler Lee Yang (李洋), who won a bronze and a gold medal respectively at the Paris Olympics this year, Fang said.
Also included are table tennis player Chuang Chih-yuan (莊智淵), judoka Lien Chen-ling (連珍羚), archer Lei Chien-ying (雷千瑩), shuttler Hu Guang-chiou (胡光秋) and tennis player Hsu Yu-hsiou (許育修), Fang said.
Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said that the ministry would not merely be an upgrade, but would seek to promote sports for the entire nation.
The new ministry would have six departments to promote both competitive and recreational sports, supplemented by an independent “sports industry development center,” Deputy Minister of Education Chang Liao Wan-chien (張廖萬堅) said.
