Two government-sponsored internship programs this year are to send 12 participants to gain experience at international non-governmental organizations (NGO), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said yesterday.
One of the programs, launched in 2005, sends Taiwan-based participants to be interns at international NGOs to strengthen the members’ capabilities, the ministry said in a press release.
So far, more than 70 Taiwanese have been selected and sent overseas for internships with NGOs, it said.

Nine Taiwanese have been sent to NGOs in Europe and the US for internships under the student program, it said.
After a screening process the two programs conducted earlier this year, five people have been selected from the intern program to go to NGOs that work on issues such as agricultural technology, childcare, information analysis and gender equality in Thailand, Nepal, the US and the Netherlands, the ministry said.
Seven people from the student program are to be placed at NGOs focused on women’s empowerment, humanitarian assistance, environmental protection and youth issues in Japan, South Africa, the UK, Malaysia and Palau, it added.
The 12 are expected to begin their internships later this month, the ministry said.
They would also help promote Taiwan on the global stage, it added.
