Chengcing Lake (澄清湖) in Kaohsiung is to be closed for a week after a man was killed by a falling tree in the park on Friday morning.
The Kaohsiung Police Department's Renwu (仁武) precinct received a report at 10am of an accident in the Niaosong District (鳥松) park.
A 66-year-old surnamed Lee (李) was walking by himself when a tree fell on him for unknown reasons, police said.

He was taken to a hospital with lacerations on his head and feet, but was unable to be resuscitated.
Taiwan Water Corp’s local office said that the park would be closed until Friday next week while it conducts safety checks and prunes trees that might pose a danger, especially as heavy rains are expected to continue.
The soil has softened due to recent earthquakes and torrential rain, which likely caused the unfortunate accident, the office said.
