Independent presidential candidate Hon Hai Precision Industry Co founder Terry Gou (郭台銘) on Thursday announced singer Lai Pei-hsia (賴佩霞) as his running mate.
Gou made the announcement during a news conference held at the Chang Yung-fa Foundation on Thursday morning. By law, Gou is required to register his candidacy and that of his running mate with the Central Election Commission by Sunday. He will then have 45 days, from Tuesday to Nov. 2, to collect the signatures of at least 1.5 percent of the electorate in the last presidential election, in order to be eligible to run in the election.

National Taiwan University finance professor Felice Chen (陳嫦芬), who was previously rumored to be Gou’s running mate, was present at Thursday’s news conference to lend support.
While making the announcement, Gou described Lai – who has a PhD in law from China’s Jinan University, and is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School – as a “spiritual leader who promotes peace and nonviolent communication.”
South Korean K-pop girl group Blackpink are to make Kaohsiung the first stop on their Asia tour when they perform at Kaohsiung National Stadium on Oct. 18 and 19, the event organizer said yesterday. The upcoming performances will also make Blackpink the first girl group ever to perform twice at the stadium. It will be the group’s third visit to Taiwan to stage a concert.
