Police in Miaoli County’s Toufen Township (頭份) seized nearly 10kg of narcotics in a raid in an apartment in the township, the county’s police department said on Thursday.
The department said the raid, which it conducted last month, followed a two-month investigation after police received an anonymous tip-off in mid-May. During the raid, police arrested a woman surnamed Liao (廖), and seized 2,410 packets disguised as single-use instant-coffee products, which contained ketamine and other substances, it said. Police also seized 13 small bags of ketamine, cellphones and other evidence in the raid, it said.

Earlier this week police also arrested a man surnamed Chen (陳) in connection with the case, it said, adding that the case is to be handled by the Miaoli District Prosecutors’ Office.
Commenting on the case, police chief Lin Yu-wang (林育旺) said that the coffee packets had the logo of a mobile game called Star City Online printed on them, which could have attracted young people to use the packets without knowing they contained narcotics. Lin urged the public to avoid consuming food or drink items that are repackaged, have damaged packaging, or emit strange smells.
