Water supply has normalized in Chiayi County and water rationing has been lifted in Tainan, the Water Resources Agency said on Monday.
Rains brought by recent typhoons have added 320 million tonnes of water to the nation’s reservoirs, including 107 million tonnes — or 382.5mm — to the Zengwen Reservoir (曾文水庫) between Tuesday last week and Monday, the agency said.
Capacity at the Zengwen and Wushantou (烏山頭水庫) reservoirs spanning Tainan and Chiayi County has collectively reached 55 percent and continues to rise, it said.

Additionally, the Renyitan (仁義潭水庫) and Lantan (蘭潭水庫) reservoirs in Chiayi County are nearly full, it added.
Minister of Economic Affairs Wang Mei-hua (王美花), who also serves as director of the ministry’s Drought Emergency Response Team, said that the “orange” water conservation alert in Chiayi County has been lifted, indicating a normal water supply.
The same alert in Tainan has been lowered to “green,” indicating the need to monitor and conserve water resources without imposing rationing.
Although the Nanhua Reservoir (南化水庫) is nearly full, the Zengwen and Wushantou reservoirs still need to be monitored, Wang said in explaining the decision to lower rather than lift the warning in Tainan, adding that uncertain rainfall might also affect water supply in the autumn and winter.
The ministry’s response team has now been disbanded, with its duties transferring to the water agency’s Drought Emergency Response Team, Wang said.
