This year, Chugai Pharma Taiwan will propagate love to Pinglin in New Taipei City, collaborating with Taiwan BlueMagpie Tea to engage in farming, helping tea farmers cultivate toxin-free tea by guaranteeing to purchase tea from them. The partnership was launched in May this year (2023) in a bid to transform Pinglin into an eco-village, making the water flowing into Feicui Dam (the source of water in the Greater Taipei Area) safer. At the same time, the project aims to assist tea farmers with sustaining their livelihood in an effort to protect food safety, the environment, and the habitat of blue magpies. Tea is one of the most important agricultural products in Taiwan, however, the excessive use of pesticides can threaten the environment and people’s health. Consequently, Chugai Pharma Taiwan helps tea farmers to implement eco-friendly farming technologies to harvest organic, safe tea leaves, thereby ensuring the safety and toxin-free qualities of the tea and minimizing environmental impacts.
In addition, Chugai Pharma Taiwan has launched numerous environmental sustainability-related activities including Tree-planting Family Day, where every prescription written for a patient will be translated into a tree planted along the coast of Taiwan to help restore the ecological balance of the coastal region. Xiaoliuqiu Beach Cleanup Family Day aims to restore a clean habitat and environment for Green Turtles. In recent years, large-scale bleaching of corals has taken place due to marine pollution and rising sea water temperature, thus Chugai Pharma Taiwan hosted the Coral Family Day in the hope of restoring the coral reef ecosystem. Furthermore, the Company’s employees have traveled to Yangmingshan to remove Tradescantia Fluminensis, an exotic species, in a bid to safeguard the habitat of indigenous plants in Taiwan.
Chugai Pharma Taiwan has adopted street trees since 2019 and planted greenery in the plantation area. Different species of vibrant flowers are also cultivated regularly to maintain soil and water stability, control greenhouse gases (GHG), and reduce carbon emissions. Moreover, lights are installed around the plantation area to enhance the aesthetics of the landscape and allow pedestrians to feel a sense of security at night. A preclearance service to facilitate entry for people traveling to select airports in Japan would be available from Thursday next week to Feb. 25 at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, Taoyuan International Airport Corp (TIAC) said on Tuesday. The service was first made available to Taiwanese travelers throughout the winter vacation of 2024 and during the Lunar New Year holiday. Chinese spouse and influencer Guan Guan’s (關關) residency permit has been revoked for repeatedly posting pro-China videos that threaten national security, the National Immigration Agency confirmed today. Guan Guan has said many controversial statements in her videos posted to Douyin (抖音), including “the red flag will soon be painted all over Taiwan” and “Taiwan is an inseparable part of China,” and expressing hope for expedited reunification. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) said a magnitude 4.9 earthquake that struck off the coast of eastern Taiwan yesterday was an independent event and part of a stress-adjustment process. The earthquake occurred at 4:47pm, with its epicenter at sea about 45.4km south of Yilan County Hall at a depth of 5.9km, the CWA said. The quake's intensity, which gauges the actual effects of a temblor, was highest in several townships in Yilan and neighboring Hualien County, where it measured 4 on Taiwan's seven-tier intensity scale, the CWA said.
