As a cutting-edge, innovative pharma company, Chugai Pharma Taiwan has won the Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) once again this year in the Green Leadership category. Receiving the special award for two years in a row is a testament to the Company’s outstanding performance in the field of social responsibility. Chugai Pharma Taiwan is committed to environmental sustainability, community engagement, and sustainable development. By hosting the innovative annual public welfare family day, the Company encourages its employees and their families to become involved and appreciate the magnificence of giving back to society. Furthermore, the Company has launched various short-term, medium-term, and long-term green campaigns.
This year, Chugai Pharma Taiwan will propagate love to Pinglin in New Taipei City, collaborating with Taiwan BlueMagpie Tea to engage in farming, helping tea farmers cultivate toxin-free tea by guaranteeing to purchase tea from them. The partnership was launched in May this year (2023) in a bid to transform Pinglin into an eco-village, making the water flowing into Feicui Dam (the source of water in the Greater Taipei Area) safer. At the same time, the project aims to assist tea farmers with sustaining their livelihood in an effort to protect food safety, the environment, and the habitat of blue magpies. Tea is one of the most important agricultural products in Taiwan, however, the excessive use of pesticides can threaten the environment and people’s health. Consequently, Chugai Pharma Taiwan helps tea farmers to implement eco-friendly farming technologies to harvest organic, safe tea leaves, thereby ensuring the safety and toxin-free qualities of the tea and minimizing environmental impacts.
In addition, Chugai Pharma Taiwan has launched numerous environmental sustainability-related activities including Tree-planting Family Day, where every prescription written for a patient will be translated into a tree planted along the coast of Taiwan to help restore the ecological balance of the coastal region. Xiaoliuqiu Beach Cleanup Family Day aims to restore a clean habitat and environment for Green Turtles. In recent years, large-scale bleaching of corals has taken place due to marine pollution and rising sea water temperature, thus Chugai Pharma Taiwan hosted the Coral Family Day in the hope of restoring the coral reef ecosystem. Furthermore, the Company’s employees have traveled to Yangmingshan to remove Tradescantia Fluminensis, an exotic species, in a bid to safeguard the habitat of indigenous plants in Taiwan.
Chugai Pharma Taiwan has adopted street trees since 2019 and planted greenery in the plantation area. Different species of vibrant flowers are also cultivated regularly to maintain soil and water stability, control greenhouse gases (GHG), and reduce carbon emissions. Moreover, lights are installed around the plantation area to enhance the aesthetics of the landscape and allow pedestrians to feel a sense of security at night. The project has earned the Company the honor of 2022 Taipei City Government’s outstanding street tree adopter.
Receiving the AREA for two consecutive years is not only a testament to Chugai Pharma Taiwan’s extraordinary endeavors in the field of corporate social responsibility, but also encourages more corporate partners to engage in sustainable actions. As a patient-oriented pharma firm, Chugai Pharma Taiwan strives to provide innovative products, solutions, and services to cater to unfulfilled medical care needs, as well as make substantial, positive contributions to society, and continue to engage in environmental actions to fulfill its corporate social responsibilities.

Taiwan is to have nine extended holidays next year, led by a nine-day Lunar New Year break, the Cabinet announced yesterday. The nine-day Lunar New Year holiday next year matches the length of this year’s holiday, which featured six extended holidays. The increase in extended holidays is due to the Act on the Implementation of Commemorative and Festival Holidays (紀念日及節日實施條例), which was passed early last month with support from the opposition Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) and Taiwan People’s Party. Under the new act, the day before Lunar New Year’s Eve is also a national holiday, and Labor Day would no longer be limited
COMMITMENTS: The company had a relatively low renewable ratio at 56 percent and did not have any goal to achieve 100 percent renewable energy, the report said Pegatron Corp ranked the lowest among five major final assembly suppliers in progressing toward Apple Inc’s commitment to be 100 percent carbon neutral by 2030, a Greenpeace East Asia report said yesterday. While Apple has set the goal of using 100 percent renewable energy across its entire business, supply chain and product lifecycle by 2030, carbon emissions from electronics manufacturing are rising globally due to increased energy consumption, it said. Given that carbon emissions from its supply chain accounted for more than half of its total emissions last year, Greenpeace East Asia evaluated the green transition performance of Apple’s five largest final
