This year, Chugai Pharma Taiwan will propagate love to Pinglin in New Taipei City, collaborating with Taiwan BlueMagpie Tea to engage in farming, helping tea farmers cultivate toxin-free tea by guaranteeing to purchase tea from them. The partnership was launched in May this year (2023) in a bid to transform Pinglin into an eco-village, making the water flowing into Feicui Dam (the source of water in the Greater Taipei Area) safer. At the same time, the project aims to assist tea farmers with sustaining their livelihood in an effort to protect food safety, the environment, and the habitat of blue magpies. Tea is one of the most important agricultural products in Taiwan, however, the excessive use of pesticides can threaten the environment and people’s health. Consequently, Chugai Pharma Taiwan helps tea farmers to implement eco-friendly farming technologies to harvest organic, safe tea leaves, thereby ensuring the safety and toxin-free qualities of the tea and minimizing environmental impacts.
In addition, Chugai Pharma Taiwan has launched numerous environmental sustainability-related activities including Tree-planting Family Day, where every prescription written for a patient will be translated into a tree planted along the coast of Taiwan to help restore the ecological balance of the coastal region. Xiaoliuqiu Beach Cleanup Family Day aims to restore a clean habitat and environment for Green Turtles. In recent years, large-scale bleaching of corals has taken place due to marine pollution and rising sea water temperature, thus Chugai Pharma Taiwan hosted the Coral Family Day in the hope of restoring the coral reef ecosystem. Furthermore, the Company’s employees have traveled to Yangmingshan to remove Tradescantia Fluminensis, an exotic species, in a bid to safeguard the habitat of indigenous plants in Taiwan.
Chugai Pharma Taiwan has adopted street trees since 2019 and planted greenery in the plantation area. Different species of vibrant flowers are also cultivated regularly to maintain soil and water stability, control greenhouse gases (GHG), and reduce carbon emissions. Moreover, lights are installed around the plantation area to enhance the aesthetics of the landscape and allow pedestrians to feel a sense of security at night. A 79-year-old woman died today after being struck by a train at a level crossing in Taoyuan, police said. The woman, identified by her surname Wang (王), crossed the tracks even though the barriers were down in Jhongli District’s (中壢) Neili (內壢) area, the Taoyuan Branch of the Railway Police Bureau said. Surveillance footage showed that the railway barriers were lowered when Wang entered the crossing, but why she ventured onto the track remains under investigation, the police said.
