Seats are to be removed from more train cars on the Taipei MRT Wenhu Line following a successful trial run, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation Chairman Chao Shao-lien (趙紹廉) told the Central News Agency in a recent interview.
The company removed seats from three cars per train on the Wenhu Line (Brown Line) in June on a trial run of a measure aimed at increasing train capacity. The trial found that an average of 20 additional passengers per train could be accommodated with the measure, Chao said.

Addressing concerns about the measure, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) on Wednesday said that seats in the front and rear cars of each train would remain in place, and priority seating for the elderly, pregnant and disabled would remain in place in every car.
The main purpose of removing the seats was to prevent crowding on station platforms, making it harder for passengers to board trains, he said, adding that the measure has proven effective.
