A seven-member delegation from the European Parliament and a 10-member delegation from the Polish parliament’s lower house are in Taiwan to boost exchanges, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The former group, led by Lithuanian EU lawmaker Rasa Jukneviciene, who is vice chair of the EU Parliament’s Subcommittee on Security and Defense, is visiting from yesterday to Friday, the ministry said in a statement.
The delegation, comprised of members from foreign affairs and economic and monetary affairs subcommittees, is scheduled to meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文), the ministry said.

The Polish delegation is led by Polish lower house Foreign Affairs Committee vice chairwoman Barbara Bartus, and its delegates are visiting from yesterday to Thursday, the ministry said in another statement.
The delegation, comprising parliamentarians from Poland’s major political parties, would meet with Tsai and Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu (吳釗燮), the ministry said.
They would visit the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Legislative Yuan, the Mainland Affairs Council and the National Development Council to gain a better understanding of cross-strait relations, regional security, technology, trade and ways to better assist Ukraine in its war against Russia, the ministry said.

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Hualien County in eastern Taiwan at 7pm yesterday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. The epicenter of the temblor was at sea, about 69.9km south of Hualien County Hall, at a depth of 30.9km, it said. There were no immediate reports of damage resulting from the quake. Credit departments of farmers’ and fishers’ associations blocked a total of more than NT$180 million (US$6.01 million) from being lost to scams last year, National Police Agency (NPA) data showed.
