Special road trips arranged by New Taipei City to promote “Tourism Factory Happy Month 2016” are to begin on Feb. 10.
Tourists will be able to visit two out of 22 participating tourism factories for NT$199, worth NT$700 in tours, lunches and insurance, the New Taipei Economic Development Department said.
Online registration opened yesterday at noon, with 840 slots available, with a limit of one trip for each person, the department said.

New Taipei City Economic Development Department Director Yeh Hui-ching (葉惠青) said the Happy Month 2016 activity involved factories in the city and the commercial districts of Sansia (三峽), Yingge (鶯歌), Linkou (林口), Pinglin (坪林), Fujhong (府中) and Tamsui (淡水), and will make available 24 lines of “happy bus” tours between Feb. 10 and Feb. 21.
Tours will visit one tourism factory in the morning and one in the evening, while dining and shopping in a commercial district at noon, Yeh said.
Individual travelers who visited any of the 22 factories between Feb. 10 and March 10 may participate in a promotional lottery by submitting a picture taken during a visit to the official event Web site, with prizes such as smartphones, electronic products, and coupons for tourism factories on offer, Yeh said.
Netizens can vote on the best picture submitted by users to win a 42-inch LCD TV, Yeh said.
The municipality’s nine industrial museums and 16 tourism factories brought 1.5 million tourists and NT$800 million’s worth of business, and the city government is committed to helping the transformation of traditional industries with subsidies and technical assistance, as well as building their brand equity, he said.
