Coin lockers have been installed in five more MRT stations as of yesterday, bringing to seven the total number of stations with the service, Taipei Rapid Transit Corp (TRTC) said.
The new coin lockers are at the Beimen, Ximen, Dongmen, Taipei 101/World Trade Center and Sanchong MRT stations.
They are equipped with an electronic pin code system, with service hours the same as station operation hours.
The rates for the lockers are: NT$20 per hour for a large locker, NT$10 per hour for a small locker, with people to be charged for a full hour for use of the service for less than an hour.
TRTC started a trial storage service at Tamsui Station in 2013, for which it said it received favorable reports.
Statistics show that use of the lockers at Tamsui Station is about 80 percent on weekdays and nearly 100 percent during peak hours (12pm to 7pm) on weekends.
Lockers were installed in June last year at Taipei Main Station and Zhongshan Metro Mall, which are connected, and usage there has averaged about 70 percent, statistics show.
For the security of visitors’ items and locker operation, TRTC has enhanced patrols and set up CCTV monitoring around the lockers.
Any items stored for more than 24 hours will be removed from the lockers and be kept for at least 30 days, the company said.
Items that are kept for more than 30 days will be disposed of in accordance with related laws and regulations of the Civil Code.
The Taipei MRT system has a total of 117 stations, with a daily ridership of nearly 2 million.

Taiwanese should be mindful when visiting China, as Beijing in July is likely to tighten the implementation of policies on national security following the introduction of two regulations, a researcher said on Saturday. China on Friday unveiled the regulations governing the law enforcement and judicial activities of national security agencies. They would help crack down on “illegal” and “criminal” activities that Beijing considers to be endangering national security, according to reports by China’s state media. The definition of what constitutes a national security threat in China is vague, Taiwan Thinktank researcher Wu Se-chih (吳瑟致) said. The two procedural regulations are to provide Chinese
