Results of a survey released by an online job bank yesterday suggested that for male and female office workers, the preferred choice of occupation for their loved ones was in civil service or government work.
Yes123 ran the survey to coincide with Valentines’ Day today.
The online job bank said the poll’s results reflected the stagnant economy and dire economic conditions of past years causing many people to prefer the stable jobs and wage structure that they believe civil servant positions offer.
The survey indicated that 56 percent of office workers have plans for dinner at a restaurant with that special someone, while 34 percent said they would go watch a movie with their partner.
Meanwhile, 16.6 percent of respondents said today would be business as usual, as they would not do anything extra and had no special celebration planned.
The survey indicated that the majority of men and women would like to receive gifts handmade by their partner.
The survey found the average budget for Valentine’s Day activities this year was about NT$3,040.
Sixty-four percent of single office workers planned to stay home and watch television.
In the multiple-choice section, 41 percent of singles said they planned to spend Valentine’s Day with single friends eating dinner or attending a party for those without a date.
In the “fantasy wish” category, the selection for “dream lover” as chosen by male respondents this year was topped by Taiwanese.
In first was actress and model Sonia Sui (隋棠), who received 38.2 percent of the vote, followed closely by model and actress Lin Chi-ling (林志玲) with 32.7 percent and actress and singer Ariel Lin (林依晨) with 26.7 percent.
Female respondents voted for Taiwanese-Japanese film star Kaneshiro Takeshi (金城武), 41.2 percent; Hong Kong actor Andy Lau (劉德華), 33.8 percent and Hong Kong actor Tony Leung (梁朝偉), 20.9 percent.
The survey was conducted between Jan. 29 and Monday, with a total of 945 effective returned online responses and a 3.5 percentage point margin of error.
