Joseph Chang (張孝全) says the pressure of a Golden Horse best-actor nomination has not fazed him, yet.
Come this evening, when the prestigious awards for Mandarin-language films are presented, Chang said nerves will inevitably hit him and he will get more nervous as his nomination category gets closer.
“I don’t know what to do with myself and I can’t sit still,” he said. “When the camera is right in front of [me], I’m so nervous, I could throw up.”
Chang is the only Taiwanese nominee in his category and expectation is mounting that he will win and keep the award in the home of the Golden Horse Festival.
The other nominees are from Hong Kong: Lau Ching Wan (劉青雲) for Life Without Principle (奪命金), Nick Cheung (張家輝) for Nightfall (大追捕), Nicholas Tse (謝霆鋒) for The Viral Factor (逆戰) and Chapman To (杜汶澤) for Vulgaria (低俗喜劇).
Counting Lau Ching Wan as one of his favorite actors, Chang said he is honored to be in the company of his fellow nominees.
In Gf-Bf (女朋友) or “Girlfriend-Boyfriend,” he plays a gay man caught in a romantic triangle among childhood friends.
If Chang’s name is called at the awards ceremony, he counts a friend named “A-ren” among people he will owe thanks.
“Before we began filming, he gave me a lot of insights to the mind of Liam, my character. His life story is very similar to that of Liam. I need to thank him for his bravery and for sharing his story with a stranger,” Chang said.

The first bluefin tuna of the season, brought to shore in Pingtung County and weighing 190kg, was yesterday auctioned for NT$10,600 (US$333.5) per kilogram, setting a record high for the local market. China has reserved offshore airspace over the Yellow Sea and East China Sea from March 27 to May 6, issuing alerts that are usually used to warn of military exercises, although no such exercises have been announced, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Sunday.
