The Taipei City Government yesterday released a list of the top 10 “must buy” Taipei souvenirs and three products it said best represented the city, including pineapple cake and oolong tea.
The souvenirs will be sold at a discount this afternoon between 1pm and 5pm at the plazas of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department stores.
The 10 “must buys” were Fengpu Tea House’s paochung tea, Taipei MRT tourist map handkerchiefs, Chien Hsiang Food’s dried pork floss, Franz Collection porcelain, E.G. Sain honey cakes, Chiate Bakery pineapple cakes, Vigor Bakery House ink stink cakes, Lautianlu Food’s stewed duck tongue, Fuyu Jerky Shop’s pork jerky and Hsiaoyang Tea House tea sets.
The three products that best represented Taipei were souvenirs from the National Palace Museum, pineapple cakes and Maokong Gondola souvenirs, the Taipei City Office of Commerce said after conducting an online poll.
Liu Chia-chun (劉佳均), director of the office, said the results were tallied from more than 120,000 votes and that the top three souvenirs and products received about 20,000 votes each.
Liu said the survey was meant to promote Taipei’s specialties to inspire tourists to discover the city.
In conjunction with the sales this afternoon, the office will hold a lucky draw.
