Olympic bronze medalist Chen Nien-chin yesterday advanced to the semi-finals of the women’s 65kg division at the Asian Boxing Elite Boxing Championships as the Taiwanese contingent continued their strong showing at the event in Mongolia.
Chen, who won bronze in the women’s 66kg division at the 2024 Paris Olympics, defeated Thailand’s Porntip Buapa by unanimous decision in Ulan Bator, in World Boxing’s first-ever continental championship.
Entering as the top seed, Chen received a bye in the preliminary round before facing Buapa, who had defeated Japan’s Mai Kito.

Chen next faces India’s Ankushita Boro tomorrow.
Yesterday’s victory meant Chen joined Lin Yu-ting, Huang Hsiao-wen and Guo Yi-xuan in advancing to the semi-finals at the event.
Lin, Huang and Guo are competing in the women’s 60kg, 54kg and 51kg divisions respectively.
With all semi-finalists guaranteed at least a bronze medal, Taiwan has secured at least four medals at the tournament.
