Everton striker Thierno Barry on Monday extended his hot streak with a late equalizer to rescue a 1-1 draw against Leeds United in the English Premier League.
David Moyes’ side were booed off at halftime after James Justin put Leeds ahead at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but Barry eased Everton fans’ frustration with a composed finish 14 minutes from time.
The 23-year-old has scored four goals in his past five league games after netting just once in his first 18 following his move from Villarreal last year.

“If you’re a centerforward, you need to score goals and he hadn’t at the start. He’s getting better,” Moyes said. “He’s training well and getting used to scoring goals. We need to create more chances and we’re still trying to get our attacking players back. I’m really pleased with the reaction. I’ve got a really strong group who demand from each other.”
Everton are in 10th place, while Leeds sit six points above the relegation zone.
Wins for West Ham United and Nottingham Forest at the weekend had increased the pressure on Leeds to counter with a victory of their own as the relegation battle heats up.
With that in mind, blowing the lead was a missed opportunity for Daniel Farke’s team, who have lost only one of their past 10 league matches.
“We are a bit disappointed because we weren’t far away from winning it. We were very dominant in the first half,” Farke said. “It was an excellent away performance. Nothing is achieved yet, but we have to keep going and we have to stay humble.”
Farke had described Dominic Calvert-Lewin as “one of the best English strikers around” ahead of the Leeds striker’s first return to his former club.
Calvert-Lewin has defied his critics since joining Leeds in August last year, scoring eight goals in his past 10 league matches after netting just three times in the final season of an injury-plagued spell with Everton, but he was unable to haunt Everton on his return to Merseyside.
Leeds went ahead with a well-crafted move in the 28th minute.
Anton Stach crossed toward Calvert-Lewin and James Tarkowski was unable to clear, allowing Justin time to pounce with a clinical finish.
Calvert-Lewin was centimeters away from doubling Leeds’ advantage moments later when he prodded Jayden Bogle’s cross against the post from close range.
Fresh from winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, Iliman Ndiaye had a chance to haul Everton level after halftime, but Sebastiaan Bornauw made a superb last-ditch block.
Barry went close with an audacious flick that forced a brilliant save from Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow.
It was a warning Leeds failed to heed as Barry hauled Everton level in the 76th minute.
Barry made a perfectly timed run to meet Idrissa Gueye’s low cross, clipping a deft finish over Darlow.
Everton pushed for a winner and Gueye, another of Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations heroes, almost got it when he thundered a fierce strike against the bar.
The Philadelphia 76ers, fueled by 36 points from Tyrese Maxey and a triple-double from Joel Embiid, on Thursday beat the Houston Rockets 128-122 in an NBA overtime thriller. The Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo on Friday said that he will probably be out for an extended period after hurting his right calf again after a similar injury caused him to miss eight games earlier this season. Antetokounmpo had his right calf wrapped in the first half of their 102-100 loss to the Denver Nuggets. He did not appear comfortable the rest of the night and left for good with 34 seconds remaining. “At the end, I could not move no more, so I had to stop playing,” Antetokounmpo said. The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player said he expected to undergo an MRI
