Taiwanese high jumper Fu Chao-hsuan on Thursday saw his hopes for a gold medal dashed at the World University Games in Germany after an Israeli athlete overtook him in the final jump, leaving him with a silver.
In the men’s high jump final, Fu started out at 2.08m and cleared subsequent heights with the bar at 2.13m, 2.17m, 2.23m and 2.25m.
He attempted 2.27m on his sixth jump, but was unsuccessful in all three tries.

Israel’s Jonathan Kapitolnik also failed his first two attempts at 2.27m, but cleared the height on his final try, narrowly edging out the Taiwanese, who once again missed out on a gold medal.
The second-place finish marked Fu’s second silver medal after he cleared 2.20m at the World University Games in Chengdu, China, in 2023.
In Germany, he attempted to break his personal record of 2.27m, a height that he cleared at an event in Taiwan in February.

Speaking to reporters after the competition, Fu said he was hoping to take a gold medal home and felt he almost had it, only to see it taken away at the last moment.
“Despite the silver, I’m still happy about it,” he said.
The Taiwanese said he would focus on the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan next year and expressed hope that he would reach the podium there as well.

It’s an incredible emotion,” Paolini said in brief remarks before the lantern was driven away toward the presidential palace. ABYSMAL: Wolves have equaled their worst top-flight run since 1981-1982, and they will equal the league’s longest winless start if they fail to win their next two matches Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim on Monday said his team had “improved a lot” after they climbed back into the race to qualify for the UEFA Champions League as Bruno Fernandes inspired a 4-1 rout of woeful Wolverhampton Wanderers. Amorim’s side recovered from their disappointing draw with lowly West Ham United last week thanks to Fernandes’ double and goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount at Molineux. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde had canceled out Fernandes’ opener with Wolves’ first goal in six games in all competitions and their first in the top-flight since Oct. 26. However, Mbeumo, Mount and Fernandes netted after
