Taremi stuck in Iran
Inter Milan forward Mehdi Taremi has been left stranded in Iran after failing to get a flight out of the country amid its conflict with Israel, with Italian media reporting the 32-year-old is to miss the FIFA Club World Cup. Iranian airspace was closed after Israel launched attacks on targets in Iran on Friday. Taremi played in Iran’s 3-0 win over North Korea in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Azadi Stadium in Tehran last week. Inter begin their Club World Cup campaign on Tuesday, taking on Mexico’s Monterrey in Pasadena, followed by two games in Seattle against Urawa Red Diamonds of Japan and Argentina’s River Plate. Taremi made 43 appearances in all competitions for Inter this season, scoring three goals.

Brown faces shooting charge
Former NFL player Antonio Brown is facing an attempted murder charge stemming from a shooting that took place during an altercation outside an amateur boxing event in Miami, an arrest warrant said. Brown, 36, allegedly grabbed a handgun from a security staffer and fired two shots at a man he had gotten into a fistfight with earlier. The victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, told investigators that one of the bullets grazed his neck. The warrant does not list an attorney for Brown, an All-Pro wide receiver who last played in the NFL in 2021 for Tampa Bay, but spent most of his 12-year career with Pittsburgh. Brown did not respond to messages sent to his social media accounts. The second-degree attempted murder charge carries a maximum 15-year prison sentence and up to a US$10,000 fine.

Li Yueru traded to Dallas
The Seattle Storm traded center Li Yueru of China to the Dallas Wings on Saturday for two future draft picks. Li, 26, averaged 2.8 points and 1.6 rebounds over 8.7 minutes in nine games with the Storm this season. She joined Seattle in the offseason following a three-team trade with the Los Angeles Sparks and Las Vegas Aces. Two weeks ago, iHeart Women’s Sports reported that Li’s representatives told the Storm she wanted to be traded. The team made good on that request by moving Li to Dallas, which were in need of a center. The Storm received a second-round pick in the 2026 WNBA draft and a third-round selection in 2027. The Wings are currently without centers Teaira McCowan and Luisa Geiselsoder, who are both away because of national team obligations. Guard Kaila Charles, who had averaged 4.9 points and 3.5 rebounds in 11 games, was waived on Saturday. Dallas have a seven-game losing streak after blowing an 11-point lead in the final 3:34 of an 88-84 loss at Las Vegas on Friday night.

Tel’s Spurs move permanent
Tottenham Hotspur have signed forward Mathys Tel on a permanent contract, the club confirmed yesterday. The 20-year-old joined the London club on loan in February from Bayern Munich. Tottenham said Tel would sign a contract until 2031 when his current loan deal expires on June 30. He has played 20 games in all competitions for Spurs this season, scoring three goals, and is currently on international duty in Slovakia for France at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, together with another Tottenham player, Wilson Odobert.
