Taiwanese Olympic breakdancer Sun Chen on Saturday finished sixth in the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) World Breaking Championship in Chengdu, China, after advancing to the quarter-finals in a career best in the tournament.
In the preliminary round of 16, Sun, also known as B-Boy Quake, defeated China’s 19-year-old Qi Xiangyu, also known as B-Boy Lithe-ing, who won the bronze medal at last year’s Asian Games and finished fourth in last year’s World Breaking Championship in Leuven, Belgium.
Sun and Lithe-ing tied 1-1 in the first two battles, leading to a third “throw down,” during which Sun showed off his signature moves.

That was enough for Sun to advance to the quarter-finals, where he lost 2-0 to Ukrainian Oleg Kuznietsov, widely known as B-Boy Kuzya.
Nevertheless, Chen secured a career-best finish with sixth place.
Despite being in poor condition due to a severe cold, Sun won the first two games on Friday to advance to the round of 16.
Sun competed in the first Olympic breakdancing event at the Paris Games this year, becoming the first athlete from Taiwan to compete in the newly added Olympic sport, although he was eliminated in the preliminary round of 16.
In August, 25-year-old Sun secured his first world championship title, also the first for a Taiwanese, after winning the individual male category at Outbreak Europe in Slovakia.
In October, Sun bagged a bronze medal at the WDSF Breaking for Gold World Series in Shanghai.
Sun next year aims to win the Asian qualifiers for a chance to compete at the World Games, to be held in Chengdu from Aug. 7 to 17.
