Taiwan’s streak of winning gold medals in weightlifting at the Olympic Games going back to 2008 on Friday came to an end as its weightlifter Chen Wen-huei placed sixth in the women’s 71kg final in Paris.
Chen, who won bronze in the 64kg division in her Olympic debut in Tokyo three years ago, finished the event with a total of 236kg, successfully lifting the bar twice — 103kg in the snatch and 133kg in the clean and jerk.
She attempted 140kg in her last clean and jerk after failing to clean 139kg on her second attempt.

However, she was unable to stabilize the bar overhead as she tried to bring both feet together, resulting in her falling backward onto the mat.
“At that moment, I thought it was too late to say anything,” the 27-year-old said when asked what she was thinking as she lay on the mat.
“Let me lie down for a moment and think about how to have a perfect curtain call,” Chen said, describing her thoughts at the time.

Chen said she felt great going into the competition, but regretted rushing, as she “wanted to win so badly.”
She vowed to compete again at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
“I hope I can be interviewed again then with a good result,” she said.

After letting another big lead slip with an error-strewn performance at the French Open on Wednesday, top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka felt like getting as far away from the courts as possible. “Just want to quit tennis right now,” Sabalenka said after wasting a lead of a set and two breaks in a 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 loss to Diana Shnaider in the women’s singles quarter-finals. “We’ll see in few days. Hopefully I’ll get back on track mentally.” Sabalenka’s wait for a first French Open title continues despite the four-time major winner leading 4-1 in the second set and being two points from victory while

US President Donald Trump said he would attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday at Madison Square Garden, but said he does not have much sympathy for ordinary basketball fans who cannot afford sky-high ticket prices to do the same. “They can watch it on television,” Trump said aboard Air Force One on Friday as he flew to Wisconsin for an event with farmers, after he was asked about tickets that have climbed as high as US$8,000 each when the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs square off in Manhattan for the first time in the series. “It’s sorta
