The Arizona Diamondbacks’ Taiwanese-American outfielder Corbin Carroll on Tuesday drilled a three-run homer and drove in his team’s first five runs as Zac Gallen threw six shutout innings, helping the visitors down the Cincinnati Reds 6-2.
Carroll, last year’s National League Rookie of the Year, matched his career-high RBI total set on June 9 last year at Detroit.
Gallen (4-2) snapped a personal two-start losing streak, allowing just a leadoff single by Jake Fraley in the second inning and three walks, while striking out six.

The woes continued for the Reds, who scored just two runs in a three-game sweep by the Baltimore Orioles at Great American Ball Park. With Tuesday’s loss, Cincinnati fell to three games under .500 for the first time this season.
Carroll, who had just seven RBIs all season, drove in runs in the third and fifth innings and then, with two on in the seventh, pounded a fastball from Justin Wilson over the center field wall for his second homer of the season. Ketel Marte followed with another homer, only the second time this season Arizona have gone back-to-back.
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo saw Carroll working and improving this season, but did not anticipate a five-RBI outburst from his leadoff man, who came in hitting .203.
“I probably thought something spectacular was about to happen, but five RBIs wasn’t on my bingo card,” Lovullo said. “But I know he was the right guy in the right spot. Just a lot of little things went right, but the home run was a really impressive swing.”
In California, Marcus Semien had four hits and five RBIs as the Texas Rangers scored 10 times in the second inning of a 15-8 victory over the Oakland Athletics to extend their season-high win streak to four games.
The Rangers sent 16 batters to the plate in the second in their biggest inning since May 23, 2015, when they also scored 10 in the third against the New York Yankees.
Elsewhere, the the Washington Nationals blanked the Orioles 3-0, the Detroit Tigers pummeled the Cleveland Guardians 11-7, the Philadelphia Phillies dominated the Toronto Blue Jay 10-1 and the Tampa Bay Rays stung the Chicago White Sox 5-1.
The Atlanta Braves beat the Boston Red Sox 6-2, the New York Yankees outplayed the Houston Astros 10-3, the Los Angeles Angels blanked the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-0, the Chicago Cubs edged the San Diego Padres 3-2 and the Minneapolis Mariners overpowered the Minnesota Twins 10-5.
The New York Mets survived the St Louis Cardinals 7-5, the Milwaukee Brewers downed the Kansas City Royals 6-5, the San Francisco Giants squashed the Colorado Rockies 5-0 and the Los Angeles Dodgers took down the Miami Marlins 8-2.

There were semi-final runs at the US Open and Australian Open after that, but it has never quite happened and despite him still being ranked No. 21, it most likely never will. Dimitrov, 34, remains one of the most stylish players on the circuit though, with his elegant single-handed backhand and smooth all-court game a rare reminder of how tennis was before the power merchants turned
Real Madrid’s FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final against Borussia Dortmund had taken three crazy turns during nine minutes of second-half stoppage time when Marcel Sabitzer chested the ball and sent a right-footed volley toward Thibaut Courtois’ post. Courtois leapt to his right, extended the long arm on his 2m frame and just managed to get his gloved fingertips on the ball, knocking it down. Courtois hit the ground as the ball bounded up. He looked skyward, planted his right hand to regain his balance, grabbed the ball with both hands on the second bounce and fell onto it with his chest. Sabitzer turned
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has overturned French Olympic fencer Ysaora Thibus’ four-year suspension for doping, ruling that her positive test for a banned substance was caused by kissing her then-boyfriend, American fencer Race Imboden. Thibus, a silver medalist in team foil at the Tokyo Games, had tested positive for ostarine, a prohibited muscle-building substance, during a competition in Paris in January last year. However, CAS concluded there was no intentional wrongdoing, finding it scientifically plausible that repeated kissing over several days with Olympic medalist Imboden — who was taking ostarine at the time — led to accidental contamination.
