The CPBL on Monday confirmed the national team’s coaching staff for the World Baseball Softball Confederation’s Premier12 tournament in November, after last month naming Tseng Hao-chu as manager.
Uni-President Lions coach Kao Chih-kang is to serve as head coach, while former MLB pitcher Wang Chien-ming, now a pitching coach for the CTBC Brothers, would supervise the national team’s pitchers.
Brothers’ batting coach Chen Chiang-ho and former manager Peng Cheng-min were named the infield coach and batting coach respectively, with Wei Chuan Dragons coach Chang Chien-ming to focus on base running and the outfield.

Tseng proposed the list, which was approved by the CPBL’s Premier12 preparatory committee. Tseng previously worked with all the coaches at last year’s World Baseball Classic. Wang is the only one of the coaches he also collaborated with for the 2019 Premier12.
Additional coaches could be brought in if necessary, Tseng said.
Meanwhile, CPBL secretary-general Yang Ching-lung, said the next preparatory committee meeting is to be held in the middle of next month, when they are to come up with a list of 80 candidates for the team, with professional and amateur players to be considered.
The league is working on planning a scouting trip overseas for Tseng, but has not finalized the dates.
Scheduled for Nov. 10 to 24, the Premier12 features the world’s 12 highest-ranked national baseball teams.
From Nov. 13, Taiwan are to compete on their home turf in Group B against Japan, South Korea, Cuba, Australia and the Dominican Republic for two Super Round berths.

For some, Cristiano Ronaldo remains the essential spearhead for Portugal’s FIFA World Cup bid, while others believe his presence would prevent Roberto Martinez’s strong side from flourishing. The debate around the five-time Ballon d’Or winner rages on, as it did at UEFA Euro 2024 and four years ago in Qatar — yet Ronaldo endures, ready to play in a record sixth World Cup. The 41-year-old remains a global superstar despite swapping the European elite for Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr, and is the leading men’s international goalscorer with 143 strikes. With 25 of those coming in 30 games under Martinez, the coach
After letting another big lead slip with an error-strewn performance at the French Open on Wednesday, top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka felt like getting as far away from the courts as possible. “Just want to quit tennis right now,” Sabalenka said after wasting a lead of a set and two breaks in a 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 loss to Diana Shnaider in the women’s singles quarter-finals. “We’ll see in few days. Hopefully I’ll get back on track mentally.” Sabalenka’s wait for a first French Open title continues despite the four-time major winner leading 4-1 in the second set and being two points from victory while
