Taiwanese judoka Yang Yung-wei (楊勇緯) on Tuesday won a bronze medal in the men’s under-60kg category at the Judo World Masters in Jerusalem.
Yang, 25, beat 19-year-old Giorgi Sardalashvili of Georgia in the match to decide third place after being defeated in the semi-finals by Ryuju Nagayama of Japan.
In October, Yang was overpowered by Sardalashvili when they met in the final at the Juso Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi.

Yang, an Olympic silver medalist, has won one gold, two silver, and three bronze medals in the seven international tournaments he has competed in this year. The only tournament at which he did not win a medal was the Tokyo Grand Slam earlier this month when he lost to Hayato Kondo of Japan in the round-of-16.
Yang, who won a bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia, said in a statement yesterday that he hoped to better his 2018 performance at next year’s Asian Games to be held in Hangzhou, China, from Sept. 23 to Oct. 8.
Meanwhile, Taiwanese judoka Lien Chen-ling fell short of winning a medal in Jerusalem after she lost to Sarah-Leonie Cysique of France in the women’s under-57kg semi-finals and was defeated by Japan’s Tsukasa Yoshida in one of the matches for the two bronze medals that are awarded in each category.

While acknowledging that the defeat, Taiwan’s sixth in Group D, was disappointing, head coach Matt Ross said he saw reasons to stay positive about the team’s development. “There were lots of positive signs in terms of the
