Taiwan’s Asian Games gold medalist Gu Shiau-shuang (谷筱霜) yesterday clinched the gold at the Asian Karate Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, after defeating Japan’s Miho Miyahara 8-7 in a tightly contested women’s under-50kg championship showdown.
Gu, 25, secured a 3-0 lead by landing a high hook-kick on her opponent just two seconds into the bout.
Although Miyahara fought hard in hopes of making a comeback, it was Gu who came out on top after she managed to maintain a one-point lead over the Japanese two-time World Karate Championships gold medalist until the end.

The 2025 International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Mr Universe Chinese Taipei competition began yesterday at Xinzhuang Gymnasium in New Taipei City, with more than 150 athletes showcasing their physiques.
