Zlatan Ibrahimovic headed home a minute from time to break Paris Saint-Germain’s single-season Ligue 1 scoring record in a 4-0 rout of Nantes on Saturday.
With the title long wrapped up and a Coupe de France final against bitter rivals Olympique de Marseille to come a week later, the night was all about Ibrahimovic and his quest to break the 37-goal single-season PSG record at the Parc des Princes.
Starting the game with 36 goals, the Swedish striker equaled the 1997-1998 club record of Argentine Carlos Bianchi in the 18th minute with his 37th of the season.

Ibrahimovic then netted his record 38th a minute from time from Javier Pastore’s cross to end a match-long quest that had looked set to frustrate him.
“I’m feeling very emotional. Today is a very special day after four years together winning lots of trophies,” Ibrahimovic said. “Thank you ‘Ibracadabra,’ these four years will remain in my heart.”
Ibrahimovic said he hoped PSG would keep on winning, adding: “Without Ibra it’s difficult, but it’s possible.”
It was the perfect end to his last match at the Parc in a PSG shirt before leaving for pastures new and he was immediately substituted, but not before his children ran onto the pitch wearing PSG replica shirts bearing the names “King” and “Legend” on their backs — a reference to Ibrahimovic’s tweet on Friday last week in announcing his departure: “I came like a king, left like a legend.”
If anyone had been in any doubt who the night was about, that was surely dispelled in the 10th minute when the ground as one rose to applaud their talismanic import.
Wearing the No. 10 jersey, Ibrahimovic acknowledged the crowd as Nantes obligingly waited patiently for almost a minute before taking a free-kick.
The visiting defense seemed to oblige in more ways than one against a team clearly intent solely on setting up their center forward to score.
Ibrahimovic notched his first goal as he played the ball out wide on the right to Angel Di Maria, before sprinting to the back stick where he was able to chest home the Argentine’s cross on his knees from six yards out without a yellow-shirted defender in sight.
If there was one player determined to ruin the party it was Nantes goalkeeper Maxime Dupe, who made a reaction one-handed save to deny a close-range Ibrahimovic flick before then thwarting the big Swede when one-on-one, as even the linesman seemed unwilling to spoil the festivities.
PSG’s desire to tee up their stand-in captain for the night took on comic proportions 10 minutes from halftime. When faced with a clear shooting opportunity inside the box, Di Maria wiggled and twisted in trying to find Ibrahimovic rather than strike at goal.
PSG finally switched back into the rich vein that had seen them romp to the title with two months to spare as Ibrahimovic and Di Maria combined to set up Lucas Moura for a simple second two minutes before the break — PSG’s 100th league goal of the season.
PSG notched their third on 52 minutes as Dupe parried a fierce Ibrahimovic free-kick, only for Marquinhos to win a sprint between three home players to tap in the rebound with not a yellow shirt reacting.
Ibrahimovic had a shot deflected behind for a corner as he took on three defenders and Dupe twice dived to his side to beat away shots before the big Swede lifted another chance over the bar as he became increasingly desperate.
However, Pastore picked him out with a minute left to the stadium’s delight as Ibrahimovic fulfilled his quest.
AS Monaco secured the third and final Champions League qualification spot as first-half goals from Ivan Cavaleiro and a Fabinho penalty gave them a 2-0 win over Montpellier Herault.
OGC Nice won 3-2 at En Avant de Guingamp, but had to settle for fourth in Hatem Ben Arfa’s final game for the south coast club.
Toulouse scored two goals in the final 12 minutes through Martin Braithwaite and Yann Bodiger to turn a 2-1 deficit at Angers SCO into a 3-2 victory that kept them a point above Stade de Reims, whose 4-1 win over second-placed Lyon was not enough to prevent them from descending into Ligue 2 alongside Lorient, who defeated Gazelec Ajaccio 1-0, and ESTAC Troyes, who tied with Olympique de Marseille 1-1.
A late goal by Stade Rennais’ Pedro Henrique was not enough to turn the tide in their 2-1 loss to SC Bastia, while AS Saint-Etienne fell 1-0 to Lille OSC and Stade Malherbe Caen beat Girondins de Bordeaux 1-0.

SSC Napoli will have to wait one more week to seal the Serie A title after on Sunday being held to a goalless draw at Parma, while closest rivals Inter drew 2-2 in a dramatic game with SS Lazio. Antonio Conte’s team stayed one point ahead of Inter and were unfortunate not to win after twice striking the woodwork through Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Matteo Politano, while Scott McTominay also had a free-kick tipped onto the crossbar. The away side thought they would be handed a chance to take the points from the penalty spot in the 96th minute when David Neres
A stunning Lamine Yamal strike on Thursday helped crown Barcelona La Liga champions with a 2-0 win over local rivals RCD Espanyol, with victory ensuring Real Madrid cannot catch them at the top of the table. Yamal’s effort and Fermin Lopez’s goal took Hansi Flick’s side seven points clear of Los Blancos with two matches remaining, to clinch Barcelona’s 28th title and complete a superb domestic treble. Only the UEFA Champions League title escaped an exciting young Barca side this season, as they won the league for the second time in six years, at Espanyol’s ground again just as in 2022-2023. Jannik Sinner on Thursday marched into the semi-finals of the Italian Open after destroying Casper Ruud in straight sets 6-0, 6-1, while Coco Gauff won a marathon three-set battle with China’s Zheng Qinwen to advance to the women’s singles final. American Gauff is to face Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in today’s title match after pulling through 7-6 (7/3), 4-6, 7-6 (7/4) in a match that lasted over three-and-a-half hours. Ruud was supposed to be Sinner’s toughest test in Rome since he came back from his three-month doping ban, as the Norwegian came into the match in hot form on clay after winning in
Omar Marmoush’s stunning long-range strike on Tuesday upstaged Kevin de Bruyne on the Manchester City great’s Etihad farewell. Marmoush let fly from about 30m to put City ahead in their 3-1 win against AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League. The victory moved Pep Guardiola’s team up to third in the standings and left qualification for the UEFA Champions League in their own hands heading into the last round of the season. “It’s really important. To be in the Champions League after what happened [this season] will be really nice,” the City manager said. De Bruyne was making his final home appearance for City before
