Formula One could have new owners by the end of the year with three parties currently interested, the sport’s commercial supremo, Bernie Ecclestone, said on Tuesday.
“Our shareholders at the moment are basically in such a position where they have to lose some of their shares, or all of them, shortly,” the 84-year-old Briton told a Camp Beckenbauer Global Summit in Kitzbuehel, Austria, in a telephone interview.
“That’s the way things are set up for them,” he added. “There has been a lot of interest and I would say there are three parties at the moment. I’d be surprised if one of them don’t buy very shortly.”

Asked what sort of timeframe was likely, Ecclestone said: “This year.”
Ecclestone did not name any of the interested parties.
CVC Capital Partners are currently the controlling shareholders with a 35.5 percent stake, while Ecclestone holds 5.3 percent.
US investment groups BlackRock and Waddell & Reed, along with Norway’s Norges Bank, are among other shareholders.
Reports in June suggested that RSE Ventures, the investment vehicle of Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, was teaming up with Qatar Sports Investments to buy CVC’s stake in a deal that could be worth between US$7 billion and US$8 billion.
However, CVC co-chairman Donald Mackenzie told reporters in July that the rights holders were under no pressure to sell.
“We like owning it [Formula One], we don’t want to sell it. There are always some people who’d like to buy it, it’s a very good business,” he said.
CVC sold down its holding from 63 percent in 2012 in deals that at the time gave the business an enterprise value, which includes debt and equity, of US$9.1 billion.
Ecclestone told reporters separately in July that “lots of people have made approaches” and indicated he too might be interested in a takeover or buyout.
“Donald Mackenzie doesn’t want to sell, simple as that,” he said then. “He loves Formula One, loves the business. He may have to sell his shares. Whether he will invest himself, maybe with me separately, we will have to wait and see.”
Carlos Alcaraz on Monday powered into the French Open second round with a resounding win to start his title defense, while world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and three-time defending women’s champion Iga Swiatek also progressed at Roland Garros. Four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz struck 31 winners in a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory over Italian qualifier Giulio Zeppieri and is to face Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan in round two. Alcaraz is now on an eight-match winning streak at the French Open and also took Olympic silver at Roland Garros last year, losing the final to Novak Djokovic. “The first round is never
TIGHT FINISH: Napoli only needed to do the same as or better than Inter, who won their game against Como 2-0 on the same day, leaving Napoli with a one-point lead The two players who Antonio Conte wanted more than any others secured Napoli their second Serie A title in three years on Friday. Scott McTominay scored with an acrobatic bicycle kick before halftime and Romelu Lukaku doubled the lead with a solo goal after the break in the decisive 2-0 home win over Cagliari. Conte became the first coach to win the Italian championship with three different teams. “Everyone contributed to this — but the coach most of all,” Napoli captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo said. “Napoli needed him to get back on top. He’s phenomenal.” Comparing it to his three Serie A titles won

SSC Napoli coach Antonio Conte has dragged the team back from disaster and restored them to the top of Italian Serie A, but his future at the Scudetto winners is in doubt even after a triumphant season. The fiery 55-year-old has exceeded preseason expectations and bolstered his reputation as a serial winner by guiding Napoli to their fourth Scudetto, and second in three seasons. However, he might well be on his way in the summer after just one season at the helm as his charged relationship with Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has simmered throughout the campaign. Conte has said
