Italy’s Cristian Deville, in his best season by far, was second 0.49 seconds adrift for his fourth podium this winter.
Third place went to France’s Alexis Pinturault, already second in Saturday’s giant slalom on the same course.
In the race for the overall World Cup, the winner of the day was arguably Swiss Beat Feuz, the only one of the three title contenders not to start the race.
Austria’s Marcel Hirscher missed a great opportunity to claim back top spot in the overall standings when he straddled a gate early in the morning run and failed to score points.
Winner of five slaloms this season, the Austrian also lost ground in the slalom World Cup and now trails Ivica Kostelic by 50 points.
Back in action in the Slovenian resort after a knee operation, the Croatian was a disappointing 16th.
The World Cup defending champion in now 186 points behind Feuz overall, while second-placed Hirscher is 55 points down.
