Are you an office worker sittting behind your desk all day? According to a survey, people spend an average of nine hours in a seated position each day, and 60 percent of the time spent sitting is at work. Overseas medical experts recommend that people who sit in an office for extended periods should stand for up to two hours a day to avoid illnesses and pains induced by extended sitting.
Even with a sufficient amount of exercise, it is impossible to offset the harm caused by extensive sitting. According to a report from the British newspaper the Daily Mail, trusted medical experts from Public Health England suggest that employers should set a daily office quota for their employees to spend time standing, as extended periods of sitting could lead to obesity, cancer and type-2 diabetes and is also related to back, neck and muscle pains. According to statistics, British workers take a total of 131 million days off sick each year because of the aforementioned ailments.
In recent years, through scholastic research and discussions, it has been discovered that the risks of extended sitting are comparable with those of smoking. Research shows that people who spend a majority of their days seated have a relatively high risk of obesity, heart disease, cancer and even early death. Experts advise that people should start by standing for two hours or doing light activities, and eventually they should increase the time to four hours to avoid incurring illnesses.

Many consumers are guilty of filling drawers or closets with old laptops, cellphones, fitness trackers and other electronic devices once they are no longer needed. It’s hard to know where to recycle such items, or it seems costly and inconvenient to do so. The world generates millions of tons of electronic waste — also called e-waste — each year. According to the UN’s most recent estimate, people worldwide produced 62 million metric tons of e-waste in 2022, and only about 22 percent of it was properly recycled. The US’ Environmental Protection Agency estimates that less than a quarter of e-waste is
You’re sitting in class when a classmate asks to borrow a pencil. It seems like a small favor, so you agree without hesitation. The following week, the same classmate asks to share your notes. Later, they request help with a group project. You agree each time — after all, you helped out the first time — but before you know it, it has become automatic. This scenario demonstrates the “foot-in-the-door technique,” a psychological concept that shows how agreeing to small, acceptable demands makes it easier to accept larger ones later on. The name for this strategy comes from door-to-door
