Pau Jar Group (寶佳機構), a New Taipei City (新北市)-based residential property developer, topped its domestic peers in terms of new construction volume last year, with projects nationwide totaling NT$97 billion (US$3.27 billion), an annual survey by Housing Monthly (住展雜誌) showed.
The figure marked a 47 percent increase from NT$66 billion a year earlier as Pau Jar rolled out projects in central and southern Taiwan, rather than focusing on familiar territory in the New Taipei City, Taoyuan and Hsinchu areas, the magazine said on Tuesday.
THIRD YEAR
It is the third consecutive year that Pau Jar has topped the sector.
Pau Jar was followed by Farglory Land Development Co (遠雄建設), with NT$69 billion worth of new projects in Sijhih (汐止), Jhonghe (中和) and Sinjhuang (新莊) of New Taipei City, Housing Monthly said.
High Wealth Construction Co (興富發), which has aggressively built up land stock in recent years, was the third-busiest developer, with luxury home and office building projects valued at NT$59 billion in Greater Taichung and Greater Kaohsiung, the magazine said.
Lih Pao Construction Co (麗寶建設) and Chungyuet Group (中悅建設) were fourth and fifth, with projects valued at NT$32.8 billion and NT$30.4 billion last year respectively, Housing Monthly said.
COMEBACK
Chungyuet had slipped from its place in the top 10 in the past few years, but staged a comeback by launching high-end apartment projects in Taoyuan and Hsinchu, the magazine said.
Chang Hong Construction Co (長虹建設), the most profitable developer last year, with earnings of NT$24.54 per share, was seventh, with NT$26.3 billion worth of projects in Taipei’s Neihu District (內湖), Housing Monthly said.
Merida Industry Co (美利達) has seen signs of recovery in the US and European markets this year, as customers are gradually depleting their inventories, the bicycle maker told shareholders yesterday. Exporter sales of the US currency and a repatriation of funds from local asset managers also played a role, said two traders, who asked not to be identified as they were not authorized to speak publicly. State-owned banks were seen buying the greenback yesterday, but only at a moderate scale, the traders said. The local currency gained 0.77 percent, outperforming almost all of its Asian peers, to close at NT$29.165 per US dollar in Taipei trading yesterday. The

After seasonal adjustments, the jobless rate eased to 3.34 percent, the best performance in 24 years, suggesting a stable labor market, although a mild increase is expected with the graduation season from this month through August, the statistics agency said. “Potential shocks from tariff disputes between the US and China have yet to affect Taiwan’s job market,” Census Department Deputy Director Tan Wen-ling

Compared with its semiconductor peers, ASE has been relatively prudent about building new capacity in the US. However, the company is adjusting its global manufacturing footprint expansion after US President Donald Trump announced “reciprocal” tariffs in April, and new import duties targeting semiconductors and other items that are vital to national security.
