Microsoft Corp unveiled a computer mouse called Arc in Taipei yesterday that targets young, mobile professionals.
“Arc is a fusion of fashion and technology. There has been an overwhelming demand in Taiwan for this fashionable mouse. In fact, pre-orders are all filled — that is why the official release has been delayed for half a month,” Wu Chien-hung (吳建宏), senior product marketing manager at Microsoft Taiwan’s entertainment and devices division, said at a product briefing.
Wu did not reveal any official numbers.
Microsoft Taiwan is placing more emphasis on consumer electronics that appeal to the upper end of the market.
“We noticed that consumers are focusing on design more and more in their purchasing decisions,” Wu said.
Microsoft will roll out stylish add-on Web cameras later in the year, he said.
Arc will be launched worldwide next month. The official release of Arc in the Asia-Pacific region will be on Oct. 17 with a retail price of NT$1,890. Arc will not be available directly to end users, but will be sold here through retail stores such as Synnex Technology International Corp (聯強國際).
Microsoft Arc is a streamlined mouse that can fold in half to conserve space. The embedded compartment houses a 2.4GHz wireless transmitter that allows connection with a personal computer up to 10m away.
Functions include a scroll wheel and a battery status indicator.
