Taichung’s Fengchia Night Market (逢甲夜市) has been commended by the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) for its excellent management, friendliness to foreign tourists and for six stalls that have been hailed for their environmentally sustainable practices.
The ministry recently conducted a nationwide review of night markets and traditional markets, evaluating them on environmentalism and management.
Markets in central Taiwan received a total of 16 commendations from the ministry and Taichung accounted for 12 of them, with 41 vendors in the city praised for their sustainable businesses.
Fengchia, located in Situn District (西屯), is the first night market in the nation to receive a four-star ranking from the ministry for an excellently managed market area.
The ministry said it arranged for top Taichung government officials to eat at the market, which is, with food provided by its six commended stalls.
The Taichung Economic Development Bureau said that all 12 of its nominated market areas this year were commended for excellence.

The American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) put Taiwan in danger, Ma Ying-jeou Foundation director Hsiao Hsu-tsen (蕭旭岑) said yesterday, hours after the de facto US embassy said that Beijing had misinterpreted World War II-era documents to isolate Taiwan.
