Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport has been ranked 10th in the Best Airports for Sleeping awards this year, the first time it has made the top-10 list, the authority that oversees the nation’s main gateway said yesterday.
Last year the airport was ranked fifth in Asia, Taoyuan International Airport Corp said.
“The airport has made it to the world’s top 10 this year, suggesting that it has won international recognition,” the company said in a media release.
The airport was ranked behind Singapore’s Changi International Airport, South Korea’s Seoul Incheon International Airport, Finland’s Helsinki International Airport, Germany’s Munich International Airport and Austria’s Vienna International Airport, according to the Sleeping in Airports Web site, which presents the awards.
From sixth to ninth were Portugal’s Porto Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport, Tokyo’s Haneda International Airport, Estonia’s Tallinn International Airport and Sweden’s Stockholm Arlanda International Airport.
The ranking comes from votes collected from 26,297 travelers between Sept. 2 last year and Sept. 7 this year through an annual survey on airport quality around the world, the Web site said.
The voters are asked to rate their experiences based on the airport’s services and facilities, terminal cleanliness, and customer service and comfort.
A preclearance service to facilitate entry for people traveling to select airports in Japan would be available from Thursday next week to Feb. 25 at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, Taoyuan International Airport Corp (TIAC) said on Tuesday. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) said a magnitude 4.9 earthquake that struck off the coast of eastern Taiwan yesterday was an independent event and part of a stress-adjustment process. The earthquake occurred at 4:47pm, with its epicenter at sea about 45.4km south of Yilan County Hall at a depth of 5.9km, the CWA said.
