Fishermen found the remains of four AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles off the coast of Pingtung County, tossing three of the more damaged missiles back into the sea and bringing one to shore, the Coast Guard Administration said on Wednesday.
The agency said that the missile brought to shore was intact, adding that it is rare to recover missiles in such an undamaged state.
A fisherman surnamed Lu (盧) said he thought he had made a great haul, adding that his crew were shocked when they dragged up the missiles in their nets.

Lu said he had intended to sell the missile for scrap, but feared getting into a legal tussle.
Port authorities contacted the military’s explosive disposal unit after the missile was brought in.
The unit said the missile might have been part of live-fire tests from the Jioupeng Military Base in Pingtung County last month.
