By Chou Min-hung and Jake Chung  /  Staff reporter, with staff writer

An intended surprise for her boyfriend on his birthday turned sour for a 28-year-old woman in Taoyuan County on Tuesday, when she found another woman with him at his house. She subsequently contemplated suicide, but was stopped after concerned passersby called the police.

The police at Yangmei Township’s (楊梅) Yung-an Police Station said they received a call at 2am on Tuesday that a woman was drinking by herself at the Rainbow Bridge at Yungan Port (永安漁港) and looked emotionally unstable.

When the police arrived, the woman, surnamed Wang (王), smelled strongly of liquor and was waving a box cutter around. Police officer Cheng Ai-hao (鄭靄灝) took the box cutter out of her hands, before sitting down with her and trying to calm her down. The police brought Wang back to the police station to rest and recuperate after she calmed down.

Wang told police a similar incident had happened to her four years ago.
