Two Taiwanese performers plan to stage a naked protest against the use of nuclear power in Taiwan later this month, hoping to raise awareness of the risks of the country’s nuclear power plants in the wake of Japan’s ongoing nuclear crisis.
Calling their campaign “Rather Nude Than Nuke,” Lee Mi (李宓) and Tsai Cheng-hsueh (蔡承學) said they hoped the protest would draw voices from different social circles to the anti-nuclear appeal.
The event is scheduled for the morning of April 25, but the -organizers did not disclose the exact time and location.

Lee has experience in protesting in the nude. In 2006, when she was a college student, she was one of a group of more than 20 people to launch the first naked protest against the construction of the Fourth Nuclear Power Plant at Gongliao (貢寮) in New Taipei City (新北市).
Now a professional singer, Lee said she hoped the duo’s action could encourage greater public support of the issue.

Considering that most countries issue more than five denominations of banknotes, the central bank has decided to redesign all five denominations, the bank said as it prepares for the first major overhaul of the banknotes in more than 24 years. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) yesterday reported the first case of a new COVID-19 subvariant — BA.3.2 — in a 10-year-old Singaporean girl who had a fever upon arrival in Taiwan and tested positive for the disease.
