The 2009 British Food Fair, organized by Taipei’s British Trade and Cultural Office (BTCO), will open tomorrow, featuring more than 100 different food products imported from the UK, officials said.
Co-organized by the trade office and City’super supermarket, the food fair will take place from Aug. 22 to Sept. 4 at three of City’super’s branches in Taipei and will feature more than 100 new products specially sourced from the UK, including drinks, sauces, tea, biscuits and chocolate.
Together with Tony Liu (劉朝雄), CEO of City’super, BTCO Director David Campbell will attend the opening ceremony tomorrow. Campbell will also act as a shop manager for the day to introduce the new products from the UK to customers.
Clare Lear, from the British Assistance and Services Section of the BTCO, will demonstrate how to use the products to make an elegant British afternoon tea and snacks.
“There are many other exciting new food products from the UK, so you can spend your weekend at City’super indulging in some British food shopping,” the BTCO said on the event’s Web site, urging the public to participate.
In addition, visitors to the food fair will have the opportunity to try English afternoon tea with a special 10 percent discount at the Wedgwood Tearoom when they shop at City’super supermarket, the BTCO said.
Customers will also have the opportunity to win prizes, including a Taipei-UK round-trip air ticket, a Brompton Baby Pink bicycle, a Dyson vacuum cleaner and entrance tickets to the Pixar 20th anniversary exhibition, the office said.

Lai said the opposition parties are against what they called the “green communists,” but do not fight against the “Chinese communists,” adding that if they really want to fight dictatorship, they should go to the right place and face
