Commissioner of Taipei City’s Department of Rapid Transit Systems, Tom Chang (常岐德), resigned again yesterday to shoulder responsibility over the recent series of malfunctions on the Muzha-Neihu MRT Line.
Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) approved his resignation and appointed Richard Chen (陳樁亮), an adviser to the city government, as Chang’s successor.
Chang had tendered his resignation after a major system malfunction on July 10, but Hau rejected it and urged Chang to stay.
Chang submitted his resignation again on Saturday after another significant malfunction paralyzed operations of the line for about four hours on Thursday. Chang said the system shutdown had seriously affected the rights of the city’s residents.
Chao Hsin-ping (趙心屏), the city government’s new spokeswoman, confirmed the news yesterday.
Chao said the mayor would organize and head a task force to improve the stability of the line.
