Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Chairman Wu Poh-hsiung (吳伯雄) will lead a delegation to a Chinese Communist Party (CCP)-KMT economic forum in China on Saturday and Sunday next week, the KMT said yesterday.
The fourth CCP-KMT economic forum will be held in Shanghai. Wu and about 150 party members and business representatives will attend the forum at the invitation of former chairman Lien Chan (連戰), KMT Deputy Secretary-General Chang Jung-kung (張榮恭) said.
The forum was initiated by Lien and Chinese President Hu Jintao (胡錦濤) when the two met in 2005. The first forum was held in 2006.
Chang said in a press release yesterday that the forum would address cooperation in the financial and service industries, cross-strait investment and institutionalization of economic exchanges.
The two parties will also hold a forum on increasing cross-strait exchanges in cultural industries, he said.
Wu will be the first ruling party chairman to attend the forum and will address the opening ceremony, Chang said.
Lien, who served as President Ma Ying-jeou’s (馬英九) envoy to the APEC meeting in Peru last month, said he discussed Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly with Hu when the two met there.
The issue is expected to be raised again at the forum.
Lien will leave for China on Sunday and visit Tianjin and Hangzhou before arriving in Shanghai.
